Police: Body pulled from creek after New Year’s Day argument

MARYSVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) — Police are investigating after a man was found dead in a southeast Marysville creek Saturday afternoon.

Marysville police discovered the body just after 3 p.m. Saturday in a small creek at 14111 Scottslawn Road. Deputy Chief Tony Brooks said the victim was identified as 38-year-old Jeremiah Johnson of Marysville, but his cause of death remains under investigation.

Police said Johnson and a female were having an argument while the female was driving in the morning hours of New Year’s Day. Johnson exited the vehicle as it came to a stop near the intersection of Scottslawn Road and Industrial Parkway. The argument continued and he began striking the outside of the vehicle. The female briefly left him by the side of the road as traffic approached. When she turned around, police said Johnson was nowhere to be seen.

Officials were alerted that Johnson was missing just before noon on Saturday. After more than three hours of searching, Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies located him in the creek near the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy report is pending at the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, but officials suspect alcohol played a role in the incident
