Crash, car fire leaves 1 person dead in west Columbus

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Interstate 70 eastbound is reopen after a fatal crash shut down the highway for several hours Sunday morning.

Columbus police said crews originally responded to a report of a car fire just after 2:30 Sunday morning at the Hilliard Rome Road exit. Upon arrival crews discovered that one person died in the crash.

Before opening the road, ODOT used a snowplow to scrape ice from the road surface caused by fire crews spraying water on the fire.
