GROVEPORT, Ohio (WCMH) — Officials said a trash bag with an anti-theft device in it prompted a recreation center to temporarily shut down Sunday afternoon.
The Groveport Recreation Center was evacuated shortly before 2 p.m. due to a report of a suspicious package.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, someone called 911 and said that there was something in the bushes outside of the rec center that did not look right.
The rec center was evacuated and temporarily closed while Madison Township firefighters and Groveport police investigate.
Officials told NBC4 everyone was safely out of the building and the Columbus Fire Department’s bomb squad was on the scene. Bomb squad investigators the package, a plastic bag, contained a t-shirt with an anti-theft device attached to it; no explosive device was found.
Investigators believe the item was stolen from a nearby Wal-Mart store.
