Gov. Kasich orders flags at half-staff for Danville officer killed in line of duty

Danville Police Officer Thomas Cottrell, was found dead near the municipal building in the village.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)–The flags will be lowered on January 23, the same day as Officer Thomas Cottrell’s funeral.

Governor John Kasich has ordered all United States of America flags as well as the state of Ohio flags be flown at half-staff on Saturday to honor the life and service of Cottrell, the Danville Police Officer killed in the line of duty last Sunday.

The order is for flags in Knox and Licking counties, as well as at the Ohio Statehouse from sunrise to sunset.

According to investigators, Cottrell was shot and killed Sunday by suspect Herschel Jones behind the Danville municipal building. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
