Trump says he could ‘shoot somebody’ and still maintain support

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (NBC News) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said his supporters are so loyal that he would not lose support even if she shot someone in the middle of the street.

“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody,” Trump said at a rally in Iowa on Saturday. “And I wouldn’t lose any voters.”

He said it was because his supporters were “so smart” and that they “are the most loyal people.”

A recent NBC News/Survey Monkey poll suggested that Trump supporters, once decided, are likely to stay with him. About half of respondents backing the real estate mogul said they were “absolutely certain” that they will vote for Trump. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
