Mom killed picking up son from basketball practice

Erica Garner was shot and killed while she waited to pick up her 11-year-old son from basketball practice.

DETROIT, Mich. (WCMH)–Two suspects have been arrested after a Detroit mother was shot and killed as she was picking up her son from basketball practice.

According to WXYZ, police said 43-year-old Erica Garner was picking up her 11-year-old son Wednesday, when a suspect shot her as she waited in her car. She got out of her vehicle and flagged down a witness who called 911. Garner later died from her injuries.

Police said 18-year-old Rayvon Smith and 17-year-old Ralph Anthony Marshall were arrested and charged with the shooting.

According to WDIV, Garner’s son got into the car with her without realizing she had been shot.
