University to track students’ fitness using Fitbits

TULSA, OK (WCMH)–Oral Roberts University is helping new students fight the “Freshman 15” by requiring all of them to wear fitness trackers.

According to NBC News, the Christian university based in Tulsa, announced the new requirements for freshman earlier this month.

The students’ fitness data will be tracked and will affect their grades.

According to the university, the program is mandatory for all freshmen but has opened it to all students.

While Oral Roberts has always required a fitness component to its curriculum, students will no longer have to enter the data by hand, because it is automatically tracked by the Fitbits.

The university said the requirement is one of the first of its kind for colleges and universities. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
