MORROW BAY, CA (WCMH) – A California Burger King sustained an estimated $35k in damage after a prank call about a fake gas leak prompted employees to smash all the windows.
According to KSBY-TV, someone called the store on Saturday night, pretending to be from the fire department. The prankster told them there was a gas leak and that they needed to ventilate the building.
The employees then smashed all the windows out. The manager on-duty used a car to ram into the entrance of the building.
The employees involved have been suspended, the owner told KSBY.
Part of the destruction was caught on camera by Brian Jagger, who was driving by and started recording just after the car hit the building.
Firefighters did respond, but found no evidence of a gas leak.
