WESTERVILLE, Ohio (WCMH)–A local history teacher is hoping to make it big with his voice.
Damon Mollenkopf, affectionately known as “Mr. Mo,” is a history teacher at Westerville North. But he’s really known for his voice.
As much as he loves to sing, it was his students who encouraged him to audition for NBC’s The Voice.
“I probably would not have done this if they had not kept badgering and badgering …in a good way,” he says.
He sent a tape and the show invited him to try out. He leaves for Chicago this weekend.
“I’ve allowed myself to daydream a little bit and get excited…what judge I would choose?” he says.
The answer is Christina Aguilera. But he knows with so many people auditioning, it’s a long shot.
“Listen, anybody…if I can get that far, someone turns a chair…any of them would be great.”
He’s singing “One Hundred Ways” by Quincy Jones.
“It’s a song that I remember,” he says. “I probably should try and sing something more current but I don’t know the lyrics ‘cause I’m old.”
