Neighborhood community mourns loss of local middle school student

Stevie Ray

GALLOWAY, Ohio (WCMH)–Neighbors in the Westpoint community of Galloway are remembering Hilliard Memorial middle school student Stevie Ray.

He died in Tuesday’s single-car crash involving three juveniles along Darby Creek Road.

Neighbors say the three teens were on their way to go sledding. School had been canceled for the day because of snow.

John Hummel said his son Zachary has grown up in the same neighborhood with 14-year-old Stevie Ray and that they were really good friends.

“He would lighten up the room when he came in the room. He was just a boy that would bring a smile to your face. He was always happy,” said Hummel.

Hummel explained many of the neighbor boys are close and have been for years.

“Since they were tiny little boys before they went to school they were all tied at the hip. They would run through this neighborhood. Whatever season it was in they would play that sport in the backyard. It would be from sun up till sundown every day,” explained Hummel.
