COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A Columbus bank employee is recovering after police say she was raped on the job Friday.
It happened around 4:45pm Friday in the Chase Bank on the bottom floor of Columbus’ Chase Tower at the corner of North 3rd and East Broad Streets.
Columbus Police Sgt. Rich Weiner said Anderson entered the bank to reactivate an old account. A male associate helped him with that, but when the suspect asked about a safety deposit box the transaction was handed over to a female employee.
Police say she started the paper work then escorted the suspect to the vault with the safety deposit boxes. That area is secluded and out of ear-shot from the other employees and customers.
Weiner said that’s where the sexual assault occurred. He said the suspect ran and the female victim alerted other employees who chased him out of the store and called police.
Officers chased the suspect down on foot and arrested him just a few blocks north at 3rd and Gay streets.
The suspect was taken to Mt. Carmel West complaining of chest pains, but was expected to be released and taken to Columbus Police Headquarters to be interviewed and charged.
The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center and was expected to be released.
When reached via phone, JPMorgan Chase Media Liaison Jeffrey Lyttle said, “We are referring to law enforcement for information at this time.”
