FOUNTAIN, FL (WCMH) — A Florida teen has been charged with the murder of his 10-year-old sister, police said Sunday.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office says 16-year-old Fredrick Matthew Lochridge has been charged with murder in the death of his sister, Isabella Heffernan, NBC affiliate WFLA-TV reports.
Deputies responded to the young girl’s home in Fountain, Florida on Sunday morning when she was reported missing. The family said she hadn’t been seen since 10pm on Saturday when she went to bed.
After a massive search was launched, the girl was found dead Sunday afternoon in a large field behind her home. Lochridge was arrested a shortime later.
“I can tell you this, the -year-old boy was not your typical -year-old kid that you would see everyday on the street,” Sheriff McKeithen told NBC affiliate WJHG-TV. “He was a hard core kid. He lied. He was deceitful. He screamed. He cursed. He was like interviewing a 30-year-old murderer when we talked to him.”
Authorities are not sure why the teen murdered his sister.
“We are not 100 percent sure we know exactly why this happened or exactly the chain of events which led to it, but we do know that the -year-old shot and murdered his sister,” Sheriff McKeithen said.
Lochridge now faces an open count of murder.
