COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)–Police are looking for a man who threatened to kill a neighbor Thursday evening, launching a SWAT situation in north Columbus.
Columbus officers responded to an apartment on Sandy Lane Road at about 5:30 pm Thursday on a report of a man with a gun.
Police tell NBC4 a neighbor had said the suspect threatened to kill him. The suspect, who police identified as 46-year-old Maurice D. Mason Sr., came at the neighbor with a firearm. Police said the two people struggled and at least one shot was fired.
The neighbor was not injured and called police. SWAT units quickly surrounded an apartment, evacuating eight units in one building.
After more than four hours, police said Mason was not found in the apartment. A warrant has been filed against Mason for aggravated menacing.
According to Franklin County Court of Common Pleas records, Mason was found guilty of felony charges of aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon in 1992.
