Girl uses her Make-A-Wish to clean up trash

KANSAS CITY, MO (WCMH)– Amelia Meyer has brain cancer, but when it was her turn to Make-A-Wish, she chose something that touched many people in her community.

“She’s always been that kid I cannot get inside,” Jill Meyer told WDAF.

When the Make-A-Wish Foundation gave Amelia the chance to wish for anything, all she wanted was to pick up trash.

“It doesn’t look nice and another reason is because it can stay dirty and it can get animals sick,” Amelia told WDAF.

With the help of the community and officials with the Kansas City Missouri Parks and Recreation Department, Amelia arrived at Swope Park greeted by hundreds of volunteers.

“I thought there was just going to be some people, not this much,” she said. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
