Police: Escaped felon assaulted Mifflin Township officer before running off

MIFFLIN TWP., Ohio (WMCH)–Mifflin Township police are asking for help looking for a man who is considered armed and dangerous.

Police say they arrested 25-year-old Dewayne A. Sears, also known as “Skeet,” on Wednesday for multiple charges, including carrying a loaded firearm while on probation. Sears was placed under arrest and transported to Mifflin Township Police Department for processing, at which time police say he assaulted a police officer and escaped the building.

A search of the area conducted by several local law enforcement agencies did not result in an apprehension, police say. He is known to frequent the Linden and Cleveland Ave. and 161 areas. Multiple arrest warrants have been issued for Sears’ arrest. Charges were filed through Franklin County Municipal Court. Sears is charged with one count of having weapons under disability (F3); one count of escape (F3); one count of carrying a concealed weapon, (F4) and one count: felony assault (F4).

According to Franklin Co. Court of Common Pleas, Sears pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery in 2009. He was sentenced to 4 years in prison. He was charged with another aggravated robbery in 2014. He pleaded not guilty, and charges were eventually dropped.

According to Ohio Dept. of Rehabilitation and Correction, Sears was released from prison on May 18, 2015. He was assigned for parole for 5 years, and he is currently on parole.
