LAS CRUCES, NM (WCMH)– A New Mexico deputy was able to escape injury after a suspect sped away from a traffic stop with the officer still in the vehicle.
According to NBC News, the incident happened February 20, during a traffic stop in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Authorities said the deputy asked the suspect, Roberto Garcia, a wanted felon, to get out of his car, but Garcia refused.
The deputy then tried to Garcia from the vehicle, but the suspect put the car in gear and began to drive away.
The deputy was still inside the vehicle and began to hit Garcia with his flashlight. Garcia would shortly surrender.
Garcia was charged with speeding, failure to provide a valid driver’s license, resisting or obstructing, and possession of paraphernalia.
