COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)–One of the children shot in Columbus on Friday afternoon has died.
Two children and a 19-year-old man were shot while in a car in the parking lot of the Express Market at the corner of 5th Avenue and Peters Avenue, several blocks east of I-71, around 4:10 p.m.
Homicide detective Sgt. Christ Holzhauser, says the boy who died was seven-year-old Deonte Fisher. A second child, five years old, is in stable condition. Investigators the young boys were brothers.
“It appears that they were in the car and someone walked up and started shooting toward the vehicle,” Holzhauser said.
Medics said 19-year-old Rayquan Holloway was transported to Grant Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the buttocks.
Investigators say they don’t know yet what the motive was for the shooting. Police said in a press release that it appears someone just walked up to the car and began shooting while the car was parked in front of the store.
“We got some information from some witnesses at the scene,” Holzhauser said.
Police said 18-year-old Marctarius K. Grace, has been arrested on a charge of murder.
