Video shows garbage truck falling from highway

MIAMI, FL (WCMH)– Video released by the Florida Highway Patrol shows the moments when a garbage truck fell from 100 feet from a highway.

According to WSVN, the driver of the truck, Kaseem Smith, was driving north of Miami on I-95 when he lost control of the vehicle.

The truck then flips off the highway and falls 100 feet into a park.

“In the video, you see him hitting the left guardrail twice, and then overreacting and going off I-95,” Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Sanchez told WSVN. “It’s a miracle that he survived.”

The park, which is normally quite busy, was empty because it was President’s Day according to troopers.

A statement released by the City of Miami reads, “The video shows Mr. Smith was not texting or using his phone and no other vehicle appears to be involved. We are still reviewing this case with risk management and law departments regarding what steps to follow next.”

Smith did fall out of the truck on the way down, but is recovering at his home, according to investigators.
