COLUMBUS (WCMH) — After a week in the hospital, a 5-year-old boy who was shot in his home more than a week ago continues to fight for his life.
Columbus police responded to a report of a shooting at 982 Duxberry Avenue just after 10:30 pm March 4. When they arrived on scene, residents alerted police that a child has been shot.
The child, Nathaniel Jones, was found in a back bedroom injured by a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition, according to police. Investigators said he underwent surgery and is showing improvement, but he remains in critical condition nine days later.
Although it was first reported as a drive-by shooting, police now believe shots were fired from somewhere in the immediate area of the neighborhood. Now police are turning to the public to find out who shot the child.
