Deputies investigating car possibly linked to fatal hit-skip crash

COLUMBUS (WCMH)– Franklin County Deputies are investigating a car found in Grove City that may be linked to the fatal crash that left a 15-year-old bicyclist dead.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, at about 11:41pm, Saturday, William M. Scarberry, 15, was riding a bicycle southbound on US 62 in the area of Ransburg Avenue, when he was struck from behind by a vehicle.

Scarberry was knocked off his bike and into the northbound lanes where he was struck by two vehicles.

Scarberry was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said after the crash, the vehicle that had originally hit Scarberry fled from the scene.

A 2004 white Chevrolet Venture has been secured in possible connection to the hit-skip crash, but the registered owner was not driving the vehicle at the time, according to deputies.

The crash remains under investigation, and deputies ask anyone with information to call the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Radio Room at 614-525-3333.
