FORT WORTH, TX (WCMH) – Seven birds, including flamingos, pelicans and ducks were killed Thursday when large hail fell at a Texas zoo.
At times, the hail at the Fort Worth Zoo was the size of golf balls.
“We lost a couple of flamingos, four, five flamingos that we know of, and a Pelican and a couple of ducks,” said Alexis Wilson, a zoo spokesperson told KTVT-TV.
Several other animals were injured and are being treated by veterinarians.
Pictures show just how much fell early Thursday morning. The storm also did extensive damage to several buildings and attractions.
Staff told KTVT they knew a storm was headed their way, but didn’t expect something so severe.
After workers made some repairs to damaged items, the zoo opened about two hours after it normally would.
