Deputies identify victim in west Columbus fatal shooting

COLUMBUS (WCMH)– Deputies continue to investigate a shooting that left 18-year-old West High School student Abdikadir Abdikadir dead.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, at about 2:15pm, Sunday, deputies responded to the report of a person shot on the sidewalk in the 30 block of Viotis Drive.

When deputies arrived on scene they found Abdikadir suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Mt. Carmel West Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Deputies say Abdikadir and two other people had gone to an apartment on Viotis Drive for a drug deal when they met to unknown men.

According to deputies, Abdikadir had arranged to meet the men, but during the transaction he was shot by one of the males.

Abdikadir’s best friend, Mateo Bernal said he was like a brother to him.

“I’m never going to forget him. I’m always going to have him in my head, in my heart. He’s going to stay in my heart forever,” Bernal said.

The case remains under investigation, but detectives say robbery is believed to be the motive in the shooting.

For Bernal, Abdikadir’s death means a future without a best friend. “I wish we would’ve graduated and stuff like that together, because we had plans and stuff outside of high school.”

Deputies ask anyone with information on this shooting to call the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at (614) 525-3351.
