Newark police release sketch of alleged abductor who picked up 19-year-old

NEWARK, Ohio (WCMH)–Newark Police have released a sketch of a man who allegedly abducted a 19-year-old on Thursday on Everett Avenue.

The woman is at home and safe at this time. Police say further investigation shows that this was in fact an abduction of the unnamed female victim.

Investigators are still looking for the person who picked her up. He is described as a white male, slender with gray hair with some dark, late 50s to 60s.

His complexion is described as being “orange” possibly from recent spray-on tanning. The vehicle is described as a newer, medium gray or silver, Ford full-size pick-up. Police say it is very clean and may be a “crew cab,” but definitely has a rear seat. It has black cloth interior. The windows are tinted, and it had a cap on the back.

Licking County Crime Stoppers are offering up to a $1,000 reward for information.

Witnesses said the man picked up a teenage girl on Everett Avenue between 11:30 a.m. and noon Thursday.

According to Newark Police, Amy Long’s 15-year-old daughter was approached by the suspicious man Thursday along Everett Avenue while she was on her way home from school. This was before the man picked up the 19-year-old.

Newark Police said the man tried to get her into his truck, but Long’s daughter refused.

“It’s a very scary situation. For something like this happening is every parents worst nightmare,” said Long.

The girl declined and walked away from the vehicle.

“It’s not the first time that we’ve had reports of men trying to pick up young girls, but it’s just scary to think that that might happen so close to home,” she said.
