MESA, AZ (KPNX) — More than 30 police officers pursued a stolen truck around Mesa, Arizona Thursday night that ended with the vehicle crashing and rolling across the interstate.
Marana police said the truck chase suspect is 31-year-old Joshua Michael Monigold, who was wanted in a March 19 Tucson hit-and-run accident.
At one point during the chase, Manigold got out of the truck, then shoved and punched a person on a motorcycle in an attempt to steal the bike. The driver was unsuccessful and instead got back into the truck and sped off.
“I thought maybe I cut him off and maybe rubbed him the wrong way,” motorcyclist Brandon Jenkins said. “Then when he ripped me off my motorcycle it became very apparent that he was trying to steal my bike.”
Jenkins said Monigold was screaming at him saying, “they’re chasing me, they’re chasing me, please let me have your bike,” but Jenkins, a veteran, wasn’t going to let that happen.
“I had headphones in and I could hear him screaming that over my headphones,” Jenkins said. “I told him no and I cursed at him a few times and told him to get the hell off my bike and I tried getting him off of it and obviously I got him off. I really didn’t know what was going on until the police officer showed up. I just thought I was being attacked.”
The chase ended shortly after the altercation when the suspect crashed. He was then taken into custody.
