Newark alleged abduction suspect bond set at $25k

NEWARK, OH (WCMH) – Bond has been set at $25,000 for the man accused in the Newark abduction case from last week.

Thomas Cheney, 78, is charged with abduction after a 19-year-old woman claims he gave her a ride and restrained her when she tried to get out of the truck.

Cheney appeared before Licking County Magistrate Judge Mattie Klein via video conference Thursday.

When asked if he had any questions, he asked the judge what questions he should ask.

Cheney was arrested Wednesday evening after someone recognized a surveillance photo of his grey Dodge pickup.

Police say he is also linked to at least two other suspicious persons calls.
