Man in stable condition after officer-involved shooting on south side

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)–Medics say a man is in stable condition after an officer shot him during a situation on Heyl Avenue around 9:06 p.m.

Sgt. Rich Weiner said the suspect was in a home threatening a woman with a knife. Officers made their way inside and tried to arrest the man, who still had the knife in his hand. Weiner said the man came at the officers; several officers tried to stop the man with their Tasers and those were “ineffective.” One officer fired several shots at the man.

Police identified the man as 40-year-old Randal S. Paden.

Paden was taken to Grant Medical Center in stable condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said the recovered a knife at the scene.
