(WCMH)–Two stormchasers at an Oklahoma news station captured video of a man driving his road grader dangerously close to a massive wildfire.

Val and Amy Castor, the WTVN storm trackers, came across a field fire on Tuesday. The video shows the moment the farmer, Jason Perks, runs from his machine before it’s engulfed in flames and jumps into the Castors’ SUV.

Val Castor said in an interview that the man in the grader was in a ditch, with a fence on one side and a slope on the other.

“Me and Amy were trying to root him on, trying to get him out…he couldn’t hear us, obviously,” Castor said, adding that he reversed out of the field as fast as possible.

The grader is still operational.

The fire in Oklahoma has burned 86 square miles near the border with Kansas, the same area where blazes last month scorched hundreds of square miles. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
