Firefighters save bear cub

(WESH) Florida firefighters have dubbed a bear cub rescued from a Lake County brush fire Thursday “Smokey Junior”.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials are now caring for the bear, which suffered mild burns.

The fire consumed 220 acres and forced the evacuation of two homes.

One witness said it started when a construction crew started a fire, then left the area.

“They actually set their brush on fire, they started a fire and they left. Yep, the wind just carried it on down the road. When you set a fire, you are supposed to stay until it’s out. They don’t even have running water there,” Adam Campbell said.
