Man jailed after dog found duct taped

DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) – A South Carolina man was jailed after a second dog was found duct taped in Darlington County, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Wayne Byrd says deputies arrested Timothy Monroe Nalley, of Darlington, after a dog was found with its mouth taped shut Sunday in the backyard of a home near Hoffmeyer Road. Nalley is charged with ill treatment of animals (torture) and was also served a bench warrant.

The sheriff’s office is investigating to determine if the second dog found wrapped in duct tape is connected to a similar case where deputies found a dog, Aurora, wandering the streets of Darlington April 4 also with her mouth and eyes duct taped.

Sheriff Byrd says the small dog found Sunday had duct tape around its neck and mouth when deputies arrived at the home. A witness on scene told deputies that the dog, a white and tan Terrier mix, was taped because she “barks all the time.”

The dog, named Angel, is about four to six months old, in good health although a bit shocked at first, and is extremely friendly, reports an employee with the Darlington County Animal Shelter.

Nalley was released from jail at 4:15 p.m. Monday on a $5,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 29.

It is not clear at this time if Angel will be put up for adoption.
