Man says barista put “not funny” diabetes message on Starbucks order

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (WCMH) — A Florida man says a Starbucks barista left a rude message on his coffee cup.

The man told WFOX-TV he was handed a coffee cup that read “DIABETES HERE I COME.”

The customer says both of his two sisters both suffer from Type 1 diabetes, and he didn’t find the apparent joke written on his 16-ounce white chocolate mocha funny.

“Seeing and knowing the struggle my sisters went through by third, fourth grade, it definitely struck a nerve, and I didn’t just want to let it go,” said the customer.

Despite being upset, the man says he didn’t ask for an apology. Instead, he wrote a message of his own on the same cup and handed it back to the barista.

That message? “Two of my sisters are diabetic, so…not funny.”

The manager of that Starbucks location tells WFOX-TV that he doesn’t condone the behavior and is taking steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
