Video of snowboarder being chased by bear causes viral argument

JAPAN (WCMH) —  Real or fake? That’s what a lot of people are asking after a video has gone viral showing a skier being chased by a large bear.

User Kelly Murphy posted the video to YouTube, Sunday with the caption, “OMG! I was going through my snowboarding videos and I found a bear chasing me!!”

In the video, you see her snowboarding down the hill and a large bear following her for several seconds. Murphy doesn’t notice the bear and continues to listen to her music while snowboarding.

But the video quickly had some doubters. One commenter on the video said, “It’s supposed to be an “Asian black bear”, but they used footage of a grizzly bear when making this obviously fake footage.”

Mashable even dubbed the video fake saying, “Looking a little deeper, the bear is clearly digitally added — it just has that pristine shine to it.”

However, Murphy defends the video claiming it is real. She told 9News “I was freaking out when I saw it.”

A tour operator with Hakuba village in Japan, where Murphy was snowboarding, told 9News that Asian black bears are common in the area and are known to be aggressive towards people.
