Heartwarming story behind Denny’s angel viral post

UTAH (WCMH) — The man behind a viral post at Denny’s in Utah says he did it all because of his own mother’s hard work and influence.

The viral act was originally posted to the Love What Matters Facebook page last week. In the post, a man requests to be sat in a section of the Denny’s where the server was a single mother. The man didn’t eat much himself, but after paying for several families meals, the man left the waitress a $1,500 tip. When asked why he did the kind act, he simply said, “Family is everything. I’ve lost all mine.”

According to NBC News, the man, who only wanted to be identified as Briggs, says he’s done it many times but this was the first time word spread of his deed.

When asked by Dateline, why he wanted to specifically help a single mother he responded, “I grew up with a single mother of six. We were poor and homeless a lot. I watched and suffered for years as I watched her work her hands to the bone to give us a good life. She raised us to be kind and help others. Many years down the road, I was facing prison and getting in trouble. It ended up causing me to lose my family because I was a really terrible person.”

Briggs says he has now turned his life around and feels like it’s time to use his new success to pass along what his mother taught him.

“Now I’ve been helping others as I was raised to do,” he says. “Now it’s time to pay it back.”
