Sheriff: Alleged Guernsey County sexual assault victim says she made up story

GUERNSEY COUNTY, Ohio (WCMH) — The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office says it has closed a sexual assault investigation after the alleged victim admitted she made the story up.

In late February Ohio State Troopers responded to a report of a badly injured woman lying in the roadway on Wintergreen Road north of Lore City.

The woman told authorities she had been assaulted by an unknown man. Authorities later released a sketch of the alleged suspect, and began a search for him.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said there were several parts of the woman’s story that did not add up. After questioning, the woman said that she fabricated the story.

The sheriff’s office has called off the suspect search, and removed the sketch from their Facebook page.

Investigators said the woman was under a lot of emotional stress. No charges will be filed against her.
