DETROIT (WOOD) – An orphaned puppy is getting the nutrition, love and social bonding he needs to be adopted out to a human family, thanks to the Michigan Humane Society’s foster program.

MHS was contacted about Bobby, a 2-day-old Chihuahua puppy, by one of its transfer partners that didn’t have the resources to help him before he could be adopted at a later age, according to a video post on the MHS Facebook page.

Bobby’s mom had been hit and killed by a car not long after she gave birth.

MHS found a human foster family to pair the puppy with a cat, named Gwen, who was nursing several kittens. The bonding between species was a success.

“We have an amazing foster volunteers that can take animals out of our shelter for a short or long period of time thankfully we had someone who was willing to step up and take these families into their home to help them get up to that time where they can be away from their mother,” said Ryan McTigue with MHS.

According to the MHS Facebook post, Bobby, the kittens and Gwen will be up for adoption in a few more weeks.

If you’re interested in adopting, the shelter said it would post updates on Facebook when the animals are ready to meet potential adoptive families.
