PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland firefighters were called to a rescue Tuesday morning that seems to be common this time of year. A family of ducks was stuck in a storm drain near N. Marine Dr. and Suttle Rd.
Crews were able to rescue 8 ducklings, but 2 other ducklings and their mother were found dead in a nearby parking lot.
The ducklings will be transferred to the Audubon Society.
This is the second such rescue the fire department has made this week. A Portland Fire and Rescue crew was called to the storm grate near SE 148th and Grant Court Sunday morning when a mother duck was seen circling in a driveway. Her ducklings were trapped below but the crew was able to reunite the family.
