Ohio’s first professional rugby team kicks off inaugural season

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Ohio’s first professional rugby team kicked off its first season in Columbus on Sunday.

In the team’s inaugural season, PRO Rugby Ohio won its home opener at Obetz Park in a match against San Francisco, 51-17.

PRO Rugby will consist of five teams in its first year: Denver, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Diego and Ohio. Each PRO Rugby team will have a 30-man squad comprised of current USA Eagles players, domestic club players, and international players. Current club players will be the foundation of PRO Rugby.

The season schedule will include 12-games starting in April and conclude with its championship in July. Training camp for the Ohio team opened March 14; the team’s season opener was a 16-13 defeat at Denver on April 10.
