Lightning strike blamed for northwest Columbus apartment fire

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Lightning struck a northwest Columbus apartment building early Monday morning, forcing its evacuation and startling those nearby.

Neighbors were awoken by a loud clap of thunder and a bright flash around 2am on Silver Falls Street, part of the Paddock at Hayden Run apartment complex near Dublin.

According to firefighters, lightning struck part of the building, starting a fire in the roof. When firefighters arrived, the reported fire coming from the front portion of the building.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to quickly contain the fire.

No injuries were reported.
