Clerk fights off robbery suspect with fire extinguisher

TOLEDO, OH (WCMH) – Two coworkers sprang into action when a pregnant gas station clerk was attacked during a robbery.

Desiree Hunt is eight-months pregnant and works at a Toledo area Sunoco station. “He came up and asked me to swipe his card for him – and as soon as I went to do it, I had money in my hand and he tried yanking the money from me and I pulled back,” Hunt told WTVG.

At that moment, Hunt jumped back. The robber then jumped the counter and is seen on video attacking Hunt.

“That’s why I turned the other way. I was trying to protect my belly,” Hunt said. “I was scared. I was just trying to get away from him and get to a phone to call the cops.”

Then, manager Angel Gonzales and another employee stepped in. The two took the robber to the ground before Gonzales subdued him with a most unusual weapon.

“Got him to the ground and I just started beating him with the fire extinguisher,” said Gonzales. “Had the other gentleman not jumped on the counter to stop me, I don’t know if I would have stopped. I was just thinking protect her because she’s pregnant.”

After Gonzales stopped, the suspect managed to get up and run away.

“We work so hard to bring this store up only for losers like that to come in and take it all from us. I’m tired of it. This is the third time this has happened to me when I’ve been in this type of situation. I just want to let them know we’re done we’re done with people like that coming in and taking from us, Gonzales said.”
