COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Two people face murder charges, including one of the injured suspects, after a woman was shot and killed Sunday evening.
Columbus police have charged Rayshawn J. Penn and Rico Brown Sr. with murder in connection to the death of Champaine Adkins.
Columbus police and medics responded to reports of a shooting near 2387 Belcher Drive at about 7:50pm Sunday. Police said there was an altercation in a parking lot in that area earlier in the evening. The altercations escalated into an exchange of gunfire.
Two victims were taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition, according to police. One of those victims, Adkins, 25, was pronounced dead just after 9pm. Another victim, 18-year-old Charrise Hampton, was taken to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center was treated and released after suffering a graze wound.
Brown, 28, was critically injured in the shooting. Police said he is still recovering at the hospital.
