TOBERMORY, Ontario (WCMH) — Police said the woman was following the instructions from the GPS on a foggy night when she ended up in the water.
According to the Toronto Sun, the 23-year-old woman turned off a boat launch in the Georgian Bay, during difficult driving conditions.
“How the launch works, it’s not an airborne thing. It’s not ‘Dukes of Hazzard.’ It kind of goes off the road and the launch just drops all of a sudden,” Const. Katrina Rubinstein-Gilbert told the Toronto Sun. “So she would have been driving on the road, and then all of a sudden just dropped and hit water.”
The woman was able to escape the car without injuries and swim to safety before the vehicle sank.
“She’s in really good spirits,” Rubinstein-Gilbert said. “Of course a little embarrassed, but taking it all in stride.”
