PERRY COUNTY, OH (WCMH) — A woman was killed after two motorcycles collided in northwest Perry County.
Troopers from the Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Lori A. Veits, 53, of Newark, died after being thrown from her seat during the Sunday afternoon crash.
Veits was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by Darreld Halblaub, 46, of Newark. At about 4:15pm Sunday, the motorcycle was attempting to pass a vehicle while traveling northbound on State Route 13. The bike collided with a second northbound motorcyclist, driven by 50-year-old Garret White of Heath.
The collision caused Halblaub to lose control of his bike, ejecting him and Veits into the roadway. Neither were wearing helmets.
Veits was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital, where she later died. Halblaub was flown to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where troopers said he remains in serious condition.
Alcohol or drug use are unknown at this time. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers ask all motorcycle riders to wear appropriate safety equipment while riding.
