2 killed, 1 injured in Fayette County crash

FAYETTE COUNTY, OH (WCMH) — Two people were killed and another was injured in a crash on US 22 in Fayette County.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, at about 4pm Monday, deputies were called to US 22 near the intersection of White Road on the report of a crash.

Deputies say a 2012 Hyundai Elantra driven by Walter H. Matson, 69, of Washington Courthouse, was driving east on US 22 when a 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, being driven by James E. Fetters, 65 of Somerville, collided head on with the car.

James Fetters and his passenger on the motorcycle, Linda L. Fetters, 69, were ejected from the vehicle during the collision and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Matson was taken by helicopter to an area hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, according to deputies.

The crash remains under investigation but deputies say both James and Linda Fetters were wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor.

US 22 will remain closed while deputies investigate.
