Texting while marching sparks West Point graduation complaints

WEST POINT, NY (WCMH) – A  West Point cadet is facing criticism over a video of her march into the military academy’s graduation ceremony on Saturday.

In a video shared by the academy on Facebook, a cadet is seen looking down at her phone while marching with the other cadets.

Once she is off camera, she looks up again.

The act of texting while marching is attracting a lot of social media attention from those who say she lacks discipline and respect.

One user wrote, “Cadets on phones while marching, some cadets marching in platform heels, others sneakers, some with socks, others not. Great discipline. Is this the best and brightest future leadership of our military?”

“Texting on a cell phone??” another user said, “Unless that was about a credible threat to the U S security PUT IT DOWN!

Others came to the defense of the texting cadet, saying the use of the phone is a minor infraction and that critics are singling out female cadets.
