1 injured, 1 killed in south Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Two men were shot late Monday night during a fight that started while a crowd was watching another fight.

It happened shortly after 10pm Monday near the intersection of East Gates Street and Ann Street.

According to Columbus police, Earl Lindsey, 27 and Rashawn Wilson, 18 were part of a large crowd watching two women fight. Detectives said that Wilson and Lindsey then started fighting themselves.

Lindsey then pulled a handgun out and shot Wilson in the chest, police said.

Immediately after the shot was fired, Lindsey was shot in the neck by a third person who witnessed him shoot Wilson.

Lindsey was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Wilson was dropped off at an area hospital where he was treated for his gunshot wound.

Police said Wilson died from his injuries at the hospital Sunday morning just before 10:30.

Lindsey’s felonious assault charge has been amended to include murder, police said.

The name of the third person has not been released.

Police ask anyone with information to call the homicide unit at 614-645-4730 or Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
