Athens man charged with murder after shooting

ATHENS OH (WCMH)–Athens Police have announced an arrest in a Thursday night robbery that ended in a man’s death.

Chief Tom Pyle said police responded to a robbery call at 8:42 p.m. at 36 N. McKinley Avenue that involved a shooting.

After an overnight investigation, Pyle said, police can confirm 22-year-old Markel Morrison of Cincinnati has died as a result of the incident.

John Michael Fults-Ganey, 21, of Athens was arrested and charged with both murder and complicity to aggravated burglary.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
