Field of Heroes on display for Memorial Weekend

WESTERVILLE, OH (WCMH) — The 8th annual Field of Heroes is once again on display in Westerville.

3,000 flags are flying  to remind everyone of the significance of Memorial Day.

The Westerville Sunrise Rotary started the event in 2009.

Anyone who wishes can purchase a flag to fly for the weekend to pay tribute to a hero.

That hero can be a teacher, family member, veteran or anyone the person chooses.

Special cards are attached to flags to designating who the hero is being honored.

The flags went up on Friday and will remain through the holiday weekend.

Doug Heil’s mother dedicated a flag to him and his siblings.

He visited his flag on Sunday.

“We come to this place every year. It’s really neat,” said Heil.

“We have a patriotic family. My brother and sister and I all served. My father served.”
