Man diving for golf balls drowns in Waverly pond

WAVERLY, OH (WCMH) — Ross County Deputies are investigating how a man diving for golf balls drowned in a Dogwood Hills Golf Course pond.

Deputies have identified the man as Charles A. Hill, 64, of Gallia County.

According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Hill’s son told deputies he and his father were in full scuba gear diving for golf balls, when the man never came back up.

The son told deputies they dive at all the area golf courses, retrieving golf balls.

Deputies say Hill’s body was discovered at about 1:30pm in eight feet of water and approximately 50 feet from shore.

Hill’s body has been taken to the coroner’s office for an autopsy.

Deputies continue to investigate, but said the body did not appear to be caught on anything and there were no signs of trauma.
