Family turns farm silo into giant Minion

OSSIAN, IN (WANE) — An Indiana farm is getting a lot of attention these days with its ‘despicable’ silo.

A 25-foot tall silo on the Stark family farm near Ossian, Indiana has been made over in the image of an over-sized Minion.

Kathy Stark, who has lived at the home for 37 years, said the silo needed to be repainted so they decided to have a little fun with it. One day her husband came up with the unique idea  that their grandchildren would love.

A few weeks ago, the family decided to make it happen. The Stark family painted the silo and welded together six-foot eyes for the Minion. It only took two days for them to complete the project and in a matter of days the giant minion became the talk of the town.

“We’re out here in the middle of nowhere but we have traffic jams,” said Kathy Stark. “People are just stopping to take pictures.”

Stark said the shape of their silo is different from others around the county. It was perfect for the body of a minion.

“A lot of the silos are shaped a little different,” she said. “They almost have the Chinese hat on the top of them or they’re too tall. This one was just the right size, the right shape.”

Word of the new minion traveled fast. Stark said people from all over town drive by hoping to get a glimpse of it.

“We’ve had everything from low flying helicopters to a guy on his lawn mower that lived in Decatur several miles away that was pulling his wife and his kid in a cart,” said Stark. “I thought that was the topper until the other day the Ossian Nursing Home came by with the elderly.”

A neighbor riding her bike stopped to admire it, as she’s done many times before.

“I just think it’s awesome,” said Beth Behning. “It’s great. It adds a lot of fun to the neighborhood and a lot of interest. I’ve been born and raised on the farm and I would have never thought to do anything like that to a silo so that’s really creative.”

Kathy Stark is enjoying every moment of it. In fact, she’s glad to see people stopping by to take pictures.

“It just tickles me pink!,” she said. “I just couldn’t believe the response. I knew people would love it but I had no idea that it was going to turn out as good as it did.”

There are still some finishing touches Kathy plans to add: including a hat and eyeglasses.

If you want to see it for yourself, you can find the silo in the 9000 block of North 750 East in Ossian, Indiana, a small town south of Fort Wayne.
