COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Woody Hayes Athletic Center was taken over by hundreds of ladies Sunday afternoon for Ohio State football women’s clinic, and I decided I would suit up in my best athletic Buckeye attire and hit the practice field with an intensity Urban Meyer and his coaching staff demand!
The drills the Ohio State coaches put us through were real, including stretching, ball control, passing, catching, tackling dummies, and lateral movement exercises. With every whistle blown, the coaches and players made us hustle! No one was allowed to walk from station to station…we had to run, even sprint, if possible!
Tara Thompson, a Buckeye fan participating for a second time, said, “This camp is just extraordinary…the players, the coaching staff, they put on an awesome show and so much fun for all us ladies!”
They taught us the details of big-time football while the DJ kept the music rocking outside the Woody on the practice field, and we competed in relay races with the competitive drive to win…and have fun!
Most participants agreed Coach Luke Fickell’s tackling station was the camp fan-favorite of the day.
Coach Fickell said, “That’s the great thing, they don’t probably get a lot of inside looks at Ohio State, and to not only have our guys out here, but the looks of the facility, the fields, and kind of what goes on out here…so it’s great to show other people.”
