Friends gather to remember cheer coach killed in shooting

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Friends of a local cheer coach gathered to remember the man who was shot and killed Saturday.

A vigil was held for Gerald Lee Bishop II outside a gymantics center on Science Boulevard on Sunday to remember the former coach and Ohio State Buckeye cheer team member.

Bishop was shot and killed at a home on Larry Place in an attempted robbery, according to police. It’s the 40th homicide in Columbus this year.

Columbus police arrested 21-year-old Dalon Smoot in connection with the shooting. He was charged with murder and will be arraigned on Monday.
